HomeStoryCup IV Day One Intro

So, I mathed wrong and have never learned about time zones correctly. I added 9 hours to the time given (CET, Germany) instead of subtracting it. Turns out the first rounds started VERY early this morning. I was asleep so I missed a lot of the beginning. There are two streams playing at once so I will naturally miss out on some stuff.

Here I will let you know all the up to date information I have learned on whats going on now till the end of this weekend. This Starcraft 2 Survival Guide on Reddit will help you out immensely. A schedule of the first rounds, today and tomorrow:

Underlining is my emphasis. Hopefully some of these guys make it to the next rounds. I don’t know any of the guys in HerO’s bracket very well. On first glance no one stands out. Hopefully he can get in a really good position there.

On the Reddit survival guide you can see the links to many different places to watch. I would suggest going to TakeTV stream 1 and 2 and then using the popout feature on those streams, mute the one you’re not listening to. Change the channel on the left.

If I find replays for today’s games I will put a link up. Otherwise check out the live streams at 5:30 and 10:00 AM today and tomorrow.

HomeStoryCup IV and a Visual Guide to Spectating

Hey all,

*Update* I had the wrong times, terribly wrong times. More info here.

HomeStoryCup IV starts in Germany this Thursday, 5-1-12.

4AM, PST, on Thursday and 5AM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. A four day tournament starting with 32 players. There will be a $15,000 prize pool and:

Exclusive catering for the players provided by a professional cook

If that isn’t enough to get you watching then I don’t know what is. Here is a screenshot from Liquipedia’s info page on HomeStoryCup IV:

Players I am looking forward to going far are HerO, well because it’s HerO. iNconrol, because he just a pretty cool person(ality). I hope he gets out of the slump he has been in, even if just a small one. Whether it’s mental or mechanical. He has a good taste in music on his stream too. So, check him out when he comes back home. White-Ra, Always playing Bo5 and 7 with TLO. A good guy and good Protoss. Ret and Destiny are two cool dudes as well, even though they are Zerg :P And I am curious to see Adelscott play, Day[9] mentions him in casts and replays so that should be good. JYP is new to EG so lets see how he does this weekend.

SC2 Casts and Proof of Life.

Hey everyone –emphasis on one.

This paragraph is to say thanks for coming back to check on this. I think I have enough excuses to fill about half of the time I have been absent here. Sick a couple of times, dad in the hospital and procrastinating birthday and christmas presents due this month, to name a few. Now on to SC2 stuff.

SC2 Casts is a site I was introduced to around the beginning of this month. I was introduced to it through an iPhone app. While they lag behind a little before the actual VOD is uploaded there is a really neat thing some of you new viewers might not realize. They will upload a best of 5 for example. And list links to all 5 games. Even if it was a shut out that went 3-0. They do not spoil the ending for you. Which essentially stores up almost all the excitement of watching it live. If you don’t read spoiler blogs or sites then you will be good to go when recapping these full series on your own. I have added them to the Learn About Starcraft page. You can browse by top: day, week, month or all time. Browse by player, caster, event or matchup.

NASL S2 Round of 16 Recap.

The North American Star League finals started Friday. It is in LA so there is not an issue with the time difference. Sweden, Korea, I’m looking at you.

Starting a little bit behind schedule, about and hour, HoN began the day. The first game lasted over 70 minutes. It was best of three and I think that after the first game this tweet (thanks r/starcraft) reflected everyones sentiments.

The second game of HoN was a lot faster I think, about half an hour. Whatever team won 2-0 and everyone was ready, and glad, for SC2 to start. The rest of the day you had to add almost an hour to the schedule, if you could find it, to figure out when the next match would be. All of this is solely hearsay, since I was at work…

NASL Season 2 Finals

The NASL, North American Star League, season 2 finals start today in less than one hour, 9am pst. HoN, Heroes of Newerth, starts out each day followed by Starcraft 2. Friday and Saturday the SC2 action doesn’t begin until around noon. On Sunday SC2 opens with a Day[9] Daily at 4 o’clock and the final matches take places a little after 5. Below I will post a copy of the schedule in full. During the weekend I think I will purchase an HD pass and be streaming it as much as possible at home, if anyone wants to come over and watch. What sucks is that I have plans during both semi-final matches and the grand finals! Bluetooth-headset-while-phone-streams-in-pocket?

Welcome

Who am I?  I am Nathanael, Nate is fine. Why does what I say about Starcraft matter? It doesn’t! In fact I am only doing this because I really enjoy A) watching matches, B) writing, even if I don’t do it very well and C) a suggestion from a friend after reading a recent post in the Starcraft community.

Now, some of you might wonder what happened to the old Wewwl. It’s been gone awhile. I have dubbed this Wewwl Redux. We Esports What We Like. We Enjoy What We Like. Whatever. Not that important. I’m sure everyone’s anxiety is expelled and you can all go back to getting a good nights rest.

I played Starcraft long ago. I didn’t stick with it all the way to Starcraft 2 and never played very competitively on battle net. I played Starcraft 2 for a while after it was released. I placed in Bronze and moved on to Silver where I kind of just left my account. I haven’t played since season 1 (I think). Placed Gold in some 2v2s. That felt good. I’m not good at micro or macro. I like Protoss. I like winning.

My love of Starcraft was rekindled when I tuned in to MLG Providence. I don’t even remember what got me interested. I was excited to see some of my favorites were in the game still. (A whole year later, I know…). It was good to see familiar faces. TLO, HuK and Idra to name a few. Well I followed those games to the best of my abilities. I prefer to watch live but sometimes my schedule doesn’t agree. Someone I was never familiar with was Naniwa. He soon became the bad guy of MLG to me. His micro was great, (and he played Protoss!), but his attitude afterward made him easy to root against. After HuK was out I started rooting for the underdog, Leenock. He was moving his way through the loser bracket back into the finals. He went on to beat Naniwa and win the whole thing. Much cheering ensued.

DreamHack Winter 2011 was the next weekend. It was even harder to watch because of the holiday weekend. There were expected appearances by family and friends at different locations throughout my city. Beside being busy a lot it was hosted in Sweden and would begin at 1AM PST, ugh. So, I had to sleep through the main part of each day and rely on tweets and replays to catch up on games. HuK was knocked out on day 3 and the only person I had left to root for was Hero, because I like Liquid a lot too. But either way an EG or Liquid would win and that was good news to me. Between MLG and DreamHack I got my good friend and brother to start watching some too. When it got to the DHW11 grand finals we were watching them on our 55″ in the front room and tweeting and texting back and forth. The games were really great. It quickly looked like it would be a quick win for Hero since he was up 3-1 in a best of 7. Puma won the next two games to tie it up though. It was down to the last game. That always makes things interesting in edge-of-your-seat anticipation. Hero won. There was much rejoicing.

NASL is this first weekend in December. It’s only two hours away! But, alas, I found out about this last night and I already have a full weekend of plans that I cannot dismiss. I will be excited to watch these and will try to post about each day of games and what I thought.

Now that all of that is out of the way. The reason I am starting this up has a lot to do with a call to action of a well known community member, iNcontrol. In his article A Decent Proposal he mentions a lot of things, this being one of them. In trying to explain all of this to my friend, after he also read the article, he said I should start writing.

Since he was completely new I started looking around for videos or articles he could read to learn about Starcraft. I have since found a lot of good resources for beginners and veterans alike. Although, the vets probably know about all of them. I have linked to static pages in the top menu. One page focuses on learning about Starcraft, as a whole and as a spectator. The other one is designed to help players who are just starting, or have been playing, get better.

So, what’s the bottom line? This is a blog where I will write about Starcraft and the community. A blog that has no connection to a team or sponsor. All of my income comes from bank heists and day trading with said money. So, while I might be a bias fan to a certain extent I am not influenced by $$ (yet). Also, I may veer to some other gaming news from time to time if it’s good enough. If you want to complain about what I write well go away. Or stay, I don’t care. If you want to help me improve, I welcome you. Comments are moderated so have patience when you submit your comment. I have had to deal with too many bot spammers to just open them up.

Thanks to everyone who stuck through that whole read and I hope I can help inform anyone who visits!
