Who am I? I am Nathanael, Nate is fine. Why does what I say about Starcraft matter? It doesn’t! In fact I am only doing this because I really enjoy A) watching matches, B) writing, even if I don’t do it very well and C) a suggestion from a friend after reading a recent post in the Starcraft community.
Now, some of you might wonder what happened to the old Wewwl. It’s been gone awhile. I have dubbed this Wewwl Redux. We Esports What We Like. We Enjoy What We Like. Whatever. Not that important. I’m sure everyone’s anxiety is expelled and you can all go back to getting a good nights rest.
I played Starcraft long ago. I didn’t stick with it all the way to Starcraft 2 and never played very competitively on battle net. I played Starcraft 2 for a while after it was released. I placed in Bronze and moved on to Silver where I kind of just left my account. I haven’t played since season 1 (I think). Placed Gold in some 2v2s. That felt good. I’m not good at micro or macro. I like Protoss. I like winning.
My love of Starcraft was rekindled when I tuned in to MLG Providence. I don’t even remember what got me interested. I was excited to see some of my favorites were in the game still. (A whole year later, I know…). It was good to see familiar faces. TLO, HuK and Idra to name a few. Well I followed those games to the best of my abilities. I prefer to watch live but sometimes my schedule doesn’t agree. Someone I was never familiar with was Naniwa. He soon became the bad guy of MLG to me. His micro was great, (and he played Protoss!), but his attitude afterward made him easy to root against. After HuK was out I started rooting for the underdog, Leenock. He was moving his way through the loser bracket back into the finals. He went on to beat Naniwa and win the whole thing. Much cheering ensued.
DreamHack Winter 2011 was the next weekend. It was even harder to watch because of the holiday weekend. There were expected appearances by family and friends at different locations throughout my city. Beside being busy a lot it was hosted in Sweden and would begin at 1AM PST, ugh. So, I had to sleep through the main part of each day and rely on tweets and replays to catch up on games. HuK was knocked out on day 3 and the only person I had left to root for was Hero, because I like Liquid a lot too. But either way an EG or Liquid would win and that was good news to me. Between MLG and DreamHack I got my good friend and brother to start watching some too. When it got to the DHW11 grand finals we were watching them on our 55″ in the front room and tweeting and texting back and forth. The games were really great. It quickly looked like it would be a quick win for Hero since he was up 3-1 in a best of 7. Puma won the next two games to tie it up though. It was down to the last game. That always makes things interesting in edge-of-your-seat anticipation. Hero won. There was much rejoicing.
NASL is this first weekend in December. It’s only two hours away! But, alas, I found out about this last night and I already have a full weekend of plans that I cannot dismiss. I will be excited to watch these and will try to post about each day of games and what I thought.
Now that all of that is out of the way. The reason I am starting this up has a lot to do with a call to action of a well known community member, iNcontrol. In his article A Decent Proposal he mentions a lot of things, this being one of them. In trying to explain all of this to my friend, after he also read the article, he said I should start writing.
Since he was completely new I started looking around for videos or articles he could read to learn about Starcraft. I have since found a lot of good resources for beginners and veterans alike. Although, the vets probably know about all of them. I have linked to static pages in the top menu. One page focuses on learning about Starcraft, as a whole and as a spectator. The other one is designed to help players who are just starting, or have been playing, get better.
So, what’s the bottom line? This is a blog where I will write about Starcraft and the community. A blog that has no connection to a team or sponsor. All of my income comes from bank heists and day trading with said money. So, while I might be a bias fan to a certain extent I am not influenced by $$ (yet). Also, I may veer to some other gaming news from time to time if it’s good enough. If you want to complain about what I write well go away. Or stay, I don’t care. If you want to help me improve, I welcome you. Comments are moderated so have patience when you submit your comment. I have had to deal with too many bot spammers to just open them up.
Thanks to everyone who stuck through that whole read and I hope I can help inform anyone who visits!
